Wayfarers to Rome

 

                             

William and Bronwyn Marques cycled from Canterbury to Rome on their Dave Yates Wayfarers in summer 2007. The trip is approx 1,900 km, plus the distance from their home in Hertfordshire to Canterbury!

 

Diabolo in Denmark........

A Dave Yates Diabolo, built in 1991, restored to its former glory after a re-spray in 2007.
 

"The frame has a LOT of memories connected to it - I've raced against (and been humiliated by) Henrik Djernis, Michael Rasmussen, and Steve Peat on it. It's the bike I rode in the Dark Peak area (which I miss like hell) until I moved to Denmark. I have tried a lot of bikes in my time and it's been the bike that has stayed in use longest and it's had a lot of kit fitted onto it. I've had the option of some very tasty MTBs during my time with Heino Cykler and my previous employer, Jupiter, and none of the mountain bikes have been able to bear the comparison."

A Wayfarer in Armenia.........
 

 

"I'm just back from a months hard riding in Armenia.  Tougher than the Pyrenees or the Alps.  Over 82,000 ft of climbing.

Anyway, I was riding my faithful Wayfarer which you built 4 years or so ago.  What a comfortable ride.  Feels like it has suspension.  The roads were the worst I've ever encountered, and even when you find a repair crew (as in the photo above) all they do is bring out a pneumatic drill, dig up a load of holes and then go away.  They don't fill them up - that''s for next year's budget.

I was riding with Pete Jarvis who appears in both photos.  Good pic of the bike, Rohloff included."

Keat Wong and his Wanderer pictured at the start and finish of his End to End ride in September 2006. Keat was raising money to buy a sonar imaging machine for his local Dialysis Unit on his 14 day, 1033mile ride.

"First things first, the frame that Dave built was absolutely spot-on. After discussing what I wanted out of the frame he went ahead and made it reality…a bike that would comfortably take me and a load of kit several hundred kilometres through remote parts of the globe yet still have the geometry to allow proper, un-laden off-road riding along the way. A third requirement was for it to look good. Taste may be a fickle thing but I feel that in this he also succeeded."

Rob Hawks is now the owner of the bike made for Ed Felker shown at Innerleithen in 2001. Here it is in 2006, and with Rob cruising through the vinyards of Sonoma County riding his first 600Km Brevet.
